Yankees Beat Los Angeles 7-5 While Bronx Pushes Matsui to Tears

Andy Pettite led the Yankees to a 7-5 victory in their home opener. Making the triumph Pettite’s fourth career home opening win, the true story lies with-in ex-Yankee Hideki Matsui.

In his first at bat, Pettite felt it only proper to step off the mound and allow the fans to “tip their hats” to Matsui. Although he may have struck out at the plate, Matsui received a standing ovation from the Bronx’s 49,293 sell out crowd.

Matsui states, “ I was very deeply moved by that moment, it’s something that I did not anticipate at all. It’s something that I will remember forever.”
